Introduction: A
very memorable trip because it was my first time participate on overseas
birdrace and I’m the first birdrace participant from Indonesia, my first time
visit Singapore, meet my good friends and new friends at their home country. I
arrived on October 19th, then fly back to Jakarta on October 21st.
Day 1
When I
arrived the weather looks not good, so I just birding from my hotel room for a
few hours until the rain stop. It yields Asian Glossy Starling, Black-naped Oriole,
and Javan Myna. After the rain stop, I went to Former Bidadari Cemetry with my
friend
Eddy by using MRT from Dhobby Ghaut Station then stop at Woodleigh
Station. I’m so happy, because finally I come to Bidadari which is one of the
best birding place I’ve ever visited in Singapore. It used to be a “transit”
place for some migratory species, and of course home for the residents.
Sadly, it will be developed soon. At Bidadari
we managed to get a record shot of Singapore rare winter visitor the Black-backed
Kingfisher, and Brown-chested Jungle Flycatcher because of the sun won’t shows
itself and both of them prefer to perched under the thick vegetation. And here,
I meet some new friends like
Mr. Arman,
Mr. Rey,
Mr. Andy, and some other friends.

Day 2
Early
morning my friend
Mr. Con Foley pick me up then we drive to somewhere near Dairy
Farm to meet See Toh. We went to several birding places:
- Neo Tiew Lane 2 / Kranji Marsh / Turuk Track (Here we got both Long-tailed and Red-breasted Parakeet, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Laced Woodpecker, Common Kingfisher, Common Moorhen, Purple Swamphen, and many more)
- Mandai Mudflat
- Seletar Dam (Here we tick Malaysian Plover, and Rose-ringed Parakeet)
- Lorong Halus (We got Little and White-winged Tern, Little Grebe, and White-browed Crake, plus 3 Smoot-coated Otter, then the rain start to fall)
- Pasir Ris Park (The rain falls heavily, so we found not so many birds. The highlight was the Spotted Wood Owl, and Stork-billed Kingfisher)
- Changi Village (We're having lunch here, and we got Tanimbar Corella. While the rain stop, we make a quick scan to the rock formation at Pulau Ubin which resulting Grey Plover, Bridled and Great Crested Tern, and possibly Chinese Egret but we don't tick the Egret during the race)
- Venus Drive (Rain continues to fall, we tick Crimson Sunbird and Japanese Sparrowhawk here)
- Former Bidadari Cemetry (Just make a quick stop, and tick the winter visitor Black-backed Kingfisher, Brown-chested Jungle Flycatcher, and Tiger Shrike)
- Singapore Botanical Garden (We tick the Whistling Ducks, Oriental Magpie Robin, and Hill Myna plus we meet Mr. Kim Chuah, Ding Li, and Albert Low)
- Bukit Batok Nature Park (We try to find the Straw-headed Bulbul here, but we don't find it. When we leave, Kim Chuah's team arrive)
- Singapore Quarry (Here we tick Blue-throated Bee-eater, and Lineated Barbet. We heard the Straw-headed Bulbul, and Changeable Hawk-eagle calls but no sight of them)
We spent around 1 hour
for each of them to find the birds as many as we can. In the afternoon the
heavy rain falls again which make our observation become more difficult because
birds usually hide from rain. The race stops at 17.00PM, and all of the
participants gather at Dairy Farm sadly I can’t join them because I had to go back
to my hotel. At the end I got a least 86 species during my short visit.
